NESHCo Announces Winners of 2016
Hospitals and Healthcare Marketing Agencies Take Top Honor
PROVIDENCE, RI (June 1, 2016) – At its 26th Annual Lamplighter Awards, The New England Society for Healthcare Communications (NESHCo) honored 58 hospitals, healthcare facilities and marketing/advertising agencies for excellence in marketing, public relations and communications. The awards were given at the NESHCo annual Lamplighter Awards held this year in Providence, RI.
The Lamplighters were established to showcase and honor excellence in healthcare communications throughout the New England region. The 2016 competition totaled 381 entries which were judged by the Georgia Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations, Mississippi Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations, Wisconsin Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing Society, and Louisiana Society of Hospital Public Relations and Marketing.
Top winners were Jennings, Chapel Hill, NC, with 30 awards; Hartford HealthCare, Hartford, CT, with 19 awards; Cape Cod Healthcare, Barnstable, MA with eight awards; Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, ME, Julia Balfour, LLC, Old Lyme, CT, and the Massachusetts Hospital Association, Burlington, MA, with seven awards;and Sean Tracey Associates, Portsmouth, NH, Lahey Health, Burlington, MA, and Bennett Group, Boston, MA, each with six awards.
Altogether, 58 organizations throughout New England were recognized for their excellence in healthcare communications, taking home a combined 189 awards (gold, silver and awards of excellence)..
In addition, the evening’s top award – the Best of New England – was presented to Day Kimball Healthcare for their “I Am New Day: Campaign for the Health and Livelihood of Northeast Connecticut” cause/social marketing campaign.
“A gutsy campaign and you made it work,” one judge commented. “It was simple and informative with an effective message. The campaign had great execution to a targeted audience.”
The Owen J. McNamara Award for excellence in writing was presented to David Whitehead and Shawn Mawhiney, Hartford HealthCare East Region, for “Dave’s Desk.”
The article was selected from the winners of the NESHCo Lamplighter Awards writing categories. The award is a tribute to the late Owen J. McNamara, a NESHCo member who, in his career as a newspaper reporter and editor, senior public affairs manager at Boston University’s medical center and author, set the standard for clear, concise yet elegant writing that recognized the audience and context. McNamara also served as a writing mentor to several generations of NESHCo members.
“Hospitals, healthcare facilities and marketing/advertising agencies are submitting works of excellence to the Lamplighter Awards in record numbers,” said Jill McDonald Halsey, APR, NESHCo president. “Being recognized by the New England Society of Healthcare Communications has taken on its own stature as an acknowledgement of excellence in marketing, communications, advertising and overall strategy. We are proud that our society has created this level of recognition for New England professionals who excel in their work.”
