In addition, the evening’s top award – the Best of New England – was presented to Day Kimball Healthcare for their “I Am New Day: Campaign for the Health and Livelihood of Northeast Connecticut” cause/social marketing campaign.

“A gutsy campaign and you made it work,” one judge commented. “It was simple and informative with an effective message. The campaign had great execution to a targeted audience.”

The Owen J. McNamara Award for excellence in writing was presented to David Whitehead and Shawn Mawhiney, Hartford HealthCare East Region, for “Dave’s Desk.”

The article was selected from the winners of the NESHCo Lamplighter Awards writing categories. The award is a tribute to the late Owen J. McNamara, a NESHCo member who, in his career as a newspaper reporter and editor, senior public affairs manager at Boston University’s medical center and author, set the standard for clear, concise yet elegant writing that recognized the audience and context. McNamara also served as a writing mentor to several generations of NESHCo members.

“Hospitals, healthcare facilities and marketing/advertising agencies are submitting works of excellence to the Lamplighter Awards in record numbers,” said Jill McDonald Halsey, APR, NESHCo president.  “Being recognized by the New England Society of Healthcare Communications has taken on its own stature as an acknowledgement of excellence in marketing, communications, advertising and overall strategy. We are proud that our society has created this level of recognition for New England professionals who excel in their work.”
